For some, the fanciful church spires surrounding Prague’s Old Town Square remind them on Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. For us, it’s the constant snapping of photographs, long lines, and multitude of shops. From Bohemian cut glass to Versace purses to cannabis vodka, you can find it all here – unless you’re looking for peace and quiet.
At 10 AM on a Saturday, an organist practices in St James Church. All but the last row of pews is roped off from visitors with signs warning of an alarm that will sound if you cross the ropes. The forbidden zone is overflowing with intricate carvings and paintings – a beautiful distraction from the weekly chore of going to mass. We would post a picture, but the signs also warned against that. You’ll have to take our word for it, or you could make friends with some of the other tourists who took pictures anyways.
To be fair, Prague is a damned photogenic city, and we took lots of pictures of it, too. We just tried to obey the signs.
