7. Septima Maria Extra Brut

It should be fairly telling that they like champagne in Argentina given that in our very limited kitchen we have three wine glasses and three champagne flutes. The major french houses like Moet & Chandon and Mumm are setting up shop much like they have in California and are producing great bubbly for an even more reasonable price, but Argentinean wineries have been at it for awhile.

The Septima offering ($7) has thousands of bubbles and not a hint of sweetness. The official notes say: “Fresh and fruity nose, reminiscent of green apple and flowers, well complemented by the delicate aroma of yeast.” Our official notes say something like: “slurp”, though we can kind of see what they are saying about the fermenting bread aroma, which smells better in wine than one would expect.

We almost ended up in a plaza listening to live tango and foxtrot music all night, but the performance wrapped up at 9:30. Instead we are trying to figure out how to cook pez angel (guitarfish, rock on). Hopefully our fishmonger is as awesome as our sommelier.
